After months of rumors, discussions and apparent 'agreements', 23 year-old Frenchman Kylian Mbappe is set to stay with his club, Paris Saint Germain as his current contract comes to a close. Although not signed just yet, this morning news broke out from internal sources that the French star will not be joining Real Madrid as it had been falsely claimed for over a year now.
Mbappe, from a young age had idolized the Los Blancos and Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo which he had mentioned many times over the years. Season after season, as Mbappe stunned the world with his brilliant technique, finishing ability and rapid pace, any and every club in Europe were looking to grab his signature. The one club on top of that list, Real Madrid.
The rumors began last season as Real Madrid began putting in offers around the time that Lionel Messi had joined the Parisians, believing Mbappe would have the chance to leave. After contract submissions had continually been declined this season, many believed it had to do with his dream Madrid move. His current contract expires in June and it was reported that on Monday May 16th, he had agreed to personal terms with Real Madrid to leave on a free fee.
If any club could afford the rising star, it would be no other than European giants Real Madrid.
Undoubtedly one of the most appealing clubs for any player to hit their peak, Real Madrid’s Benzema had already started a partnership with Mbappe in the French international side and could have been a powerful duo come next season. It was getting more obvious that the connection was established and his destination would be Spain next season.
In addition, reports from Mbappe’s mother, Spanish media, and others looked as if Mbappe had already been a Madrid player days ago, however, that has come to not be the case. No official word of the contract has been revealed nor has PSG made any announcement as of yet, but reports are confirming that he certainly has an agreement with the club.
As for the rumors, some estimate that the 23 year-old will have more than a wage increase with the club, he will also have a larger role with the internal inner-workings of the club when it comes to transfers, coaching staff, sporting director and sales. The current speculations suggest the contract to be three years and have Mbappe on around 100 million Euros a season plus huge bonuses as well. Considering PSG have submitted multiple offers to the Frenchmen that have been declined and negotiated to no avail, it is no question that the contract will be one of the largest European football has ever seen.
Coming off of a fantastic season, Mbappe contributed an astounding 36 goals and 26 assists in 45 games in all competitions for PSG taking home the Ligue One top scorer award, Ligue One Player of the Year all while winning the league as well. Although a stunning loss knocked out PSG in the Round of 16 by Champions League finalists Real Madrid, which helped boost the Mbappe news even more, Mbappe still has chosen an extension with PSG.
The announcement should be revealed later today if not tomorrow, but expect big changes with a new name pulling the strings on and off the pitch for the French giants. Did we mention Neymar, Messi and Sergio Ramos still play for this club…?
