Diffusing Dynamite: Beach Break edition

The special edition of Dynamite was highlighted by a first time ever main event

Wedding bells were ringing and glasses of bubbly were clinging as All Elite Wrestling (AEW) welcomed us to Beach Break. Grudges were settled, a challenger for the tag team titles was found and Penelope ford and Kip Sabian got married.

AEW TNT Champion Darby Allin was live on the show and will be facing Joey Janela next week. The suspended team of FTR also dropped in via video and revealed they kidnapped Marko Stunt. Lance Archer ended his rivalry with Eddie Kingston and defeated him in a lumberjack match.

As always the Diffusing Dynamite crew of Gavin Axelrod and Joseph Casciaro have you covered on all things AEW.

Number one contender battle royale

(AEW)

The cracks in the Inner Circle were on full display in this one. It came down to a final three of Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara and Darius Martin.

Jericho would emerge victorious, but it came at the cost of eliminating his fellow stablemate. Guevara wasn’t sticking around for the celebration.

Later in the show, the Inner Circle was shown backstage as Jericho celebrated his victory and upcoming title shot on March. 7 at the Revolution pay-per-view. Guevara immediately interjected in the festivities and said it felt like Jericho was just using everyone else as a way to get back to the top.

The ‘Spanish God’ stormed out of the room and was chased by Jericho. Then MJF told the rest of the faction it was time they talked-- behind closed doors.

Wardlow closed the door and fans were left to speculate whether or not MJF was planting the seeds for an Inner Circle coup.

Rosa and Baker have a classic match

(AEW)

The feud between Britt Baker and Thunder Rosa came to an end in a brutally beautiful match Wednesday night.

Baker and Rosa legitimately beat each other up with tons of stiff strikes and even harder kicks. Thunder Rosa was in control early and for most of the match, it looked like she was poised to pull off the upset.

Every dentist has a great partner and on Wednesday, night Baker’s adversary Rebel made all the difference. She ripped off the turnbuckle when referee Paul Turner wasn’t looking.

Baker was able to catch Rosa and drive her face-first into the exposed steel for the win. Could we see these two face off in the AEW Women’s World Title Eliminator Tournament this month?

Matt Hardy and Hangman Page get along?

(AEW)

Last week on Dynamite Matt Hardy offered to be a friend to AEW’s lonely cowboy ‘Hangman’ Adam Page. Hardy said he wasn’t trying to con Page, he just wanted to help his friend.

‘Big Money Matt’ also said that since Luther and Scerpentico ruined -1’s birthday last week, the only way to make it up to Dark Order was to beat them in the match. So, the two teamed up this week.

The match itself was nothing special and Page dominated for most of it. However, just as ‘Hangman’ hit the Buckshot Lariat and went for the pin, Matt Hardy tagged in to steal the victory.

All Page could do was shrug in confusion as the referee raised their hands.

Women’s World Championship eliminator tournament announcement

AEW confirmed that half of the bracket in the upcoming Women’s title eliminator tournament would be held in Japan. A group of Joshi stars was announced to compete overseas, including the legendary Aja Kong, Yuka Sakazaki, Maki Itoh and more.

The USA side will see Riho return to mix it up with the likes of Anna Jay, Thunder Rosa, Britt Baker and a lot more familiar faces regularly featured on Dynamite.

This tournament has the potential to be a major step forward for the AEW Women’s division. Check out the tweet above to see all the participants!

Penelope Ford and Kip Sabian get married

(AEW)

Well, you just knew this wrestling wedding wouldn’t go off a hitch. Even a guy like Miro who has been involved in so many wrestling weddings couldn’t escape unscathed.

Everything seemed fine until Miro attacked a giant box, thinking someone was hiding inside of it. During the distraction, he managed to get himself chained to the ring.

This led to tons of commotion, Penelope Ford getting pushed into the cake and Kip Sabian and Miro coming to blows.

Orange Cassidy also appeared and came out of the giant cake. He hit the Beach Break on Kip Sabian and he and Chuck Taylor stood tall to end the segment.

Our hearts go out to Penelope Ford though, she didn’t even get to finish her vows.

Main event goes crazy

(Twitter via @AEW)

I’m gonna keep this short and sweet. The main event between Kenny Omega, Doc Gallows, Karl Anderson and their opponents, Jon Moxley, PAC and Rey Fenix was incredible. Do yourself a favour and watch this match.

It had every type of one-on-one dream combo you could think of. Karl Anderson went toe-to-toe with PAC and Fenix.

While the match was a great spectacle, the wrestling world is buzzing about what happened after the match.

Goodnight Jon Moxley

(Twitter via @AEW)

The proverbial “forbidden door” of wrestling was absolutely missile drop kicked in faster than you could say “FBI open up” when IWGP United States Championship challenge rights holder KENTA showed up to end the show.

For those who aren’t aware, KENTA is set to challenge Jon Moxley for the IWGP United States Championship Feb. 26 on New Japan Strong, the company’s American show. This is significant because Moxley is U.S. exclusive to AEW, but Tony Khan has been kind enough to allow him to work the show.

KENTA won the right to challenge Moxley in the spring of 2020, but the pandemic kept the two from meeting face to face until last week on Strong. Moxley made a surprise appearance on the show to accept the challenge and this week KENTA came to Dynamite to repay the favour.

A masked man emerged from the crowd and the fans went wild as KENTA appeared. He hoisted Moxley up on his shoulders and drilled him with the Go To Sleep finisher.

The show ended with Moxley lying in the ring while KENTA, a Bullet Club adversary, left the ring with Anderson, Gallows and Omega.

Next week: Darby Allin defends the TNT Championship against Joey Janela, the fallout from KENTA's arrival in AEW and more!
